Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah, the higher objectives of Islamic law, provides a comprehensive framework for addressing contemporary legal and governance challenges while preserving the fundamental values of Islam. This article examines the role of maqāṣid in Islamic legal reform and its capacity to reconcile classical jurisprudence with modern legal systems. Using a qualitative doctrinal approach, the study analyzes classical juristic principles alongside contemporary legal developments to explore their relevance in areas such as governance, human rights, Islamic finance, family law, and public policy. The findings indicate that a maqāṣid-based approach promotes justice, public welfare (maṣlaḥah), accountability, and legal adaptability without compromising the authenticity of Sharīʿah. The article further argues that integrating maqāṣid into legislative and judicial processes enables Islamic legal systems to respond effectively to emerging social, economic, and technological challenges. It concludes that Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah remains an essential framework for achieving balanced, ethical, and sustainable legal reform in the contemporary world.
